1.1 South Arabian Inscriptions

South Arabian Inscriptions displays the list of the Ancient South Arabian corpora published in the CSAI database. These can be consulted simultaneously (All the inscriptions) or by language (Single corpora by language).
Corpus of Inscriptions from Yemeni museums displays the corpus of texts housed in some of the Yemeni museums, which have been catalogued within the project CASIS. This corpus can be consulted individually only.
Corpus of Inscriptions from the British Museum displays the inscriptions of the South Arabian collection at the British Museum. The texts have been catalogued within the project Mencawar. This corpus can be consulted individually only.

1.2 South Arabian Minuscule Texts

South Arabian Minuscule Texts displays the corpus of texts on wooden sticks written in minuscule script.

1.3 Other Semitic inscriptions

Other Semitic inscriptions displays the list of other ancient texts digitalized through the same tool as CSAI. Presently, it contains the Corpus of Phoenician inscriptions and the Corpus of Inscriptions from Jordan. These corpora have been catalogued within the project Mencawar.

1.4 Demo Version

Demo Version contains a reduced, demo version of the CSAI database, freely accessible to public.

1.5 Everlasting inscribed

Everlasting inscribed contains a list of inscriptions collected according a number of topics: society, religion, economy, art.
This section is intended especially for non-linguists scholars or for a general public who wants to get an impression about the different aspects of the ancient south Arabian culture and history as they appear from the epigraphic documentation.

1.6 Download Font

Download Font starts off the downloading of the Diacritic font created by the CSAI technicians in order to transliterate the south Arabian alphabet.

1.7 Editing Criteria

Editing Criteria displays the file which explains the editing criteria used to catalogue the ancient south Arabian texts. The document can be downloaded in pdf version.

1.8 Contacts

Contacts contains e-mails of the CSAI team. Anyone interested in accessing the site should apply by email for obtaining a password which is personal and free.
Interested colleagues should also intervene in this section by sending their remarks and comments. Any correction or integration will be inserted in the corpus with the indications of the scholar who proposed them.

News displays information about new inscriptions, photos, translations inserted in each corpus.

Help contains the site map and explains all the features of CSAI.

2. Home of single corpus

All the inscriptions (and Hadramitic, Minaic inscriptions etc.) displays the homepage of the whole inscriptions contained in the database, or of the single language whose corpus is being consulted.

2.0 CSAI home

CSAI home brings back to the home page of the CSAI.

2.1 Index of inscriptions

Index of inscriptions displays the list of the inscriptions contained in each corpus. The first letter of the inscription siglum can be selected from the bar of the alphabetical list.

2.1.1 Visualization and structure of the epigraph

See Editing criteria.

2.1.2 Display onomastics

Display onomastics shows the proper names within the text visualized in different colours according to each onomastic category.
See Editing criteria for the list of the onomastic categories.

2.1.3 Hide onomastics

Hide onomastics hides the colours used to highlight the proper names inside the text.

2.1.4 Legenda

Legenda opens the window containing the onomastic categories and the graphic conventions used to display them.

2.1.5 Translation

See Editing criteria.

2.2 Search

Search allows to perform different kinds of searches within the corpus.

2.2.1 Lexical search

Lexical search allows to look for a word within the corpus.

2.2.2 Onomastic search

Onomastic search allows to look for a proper name within the various Onomastic categories. Lists of proper names can be also obtained by selecting one or more options in the Onomastic categories (e.g. all the names of gods, all the names of kings etc.).

2.2.3 Textual and extra-textual typologies search

Textual and extra-textual typologies search allows to obtain lists of inscriptions by selecting one or more options in the Textual and in the Extra-textual typology (e.g. all the inscriptions of a chronological period, all the inscriptions from a city, all the dedicatory texts, all the frankincense burners etc.).

2.2.4 Search combinations

Search combinations allows to perform searches, whether lexical or not, on one or more than one group of inscriptions, by selecting any option within the Onomastic categories and the Textual and extra-textual typologies.

2.2.5 How to digitize the pattern to search

How to digitize the pattern to search explains the graphic conventions which have to be used in order to transliterate the south Arabian characters while performing the search.

2.2.6 Search

Search starts up a textual search within the corpus in accordance with various possibilities. While inserting the word, the search form has to be specified. The windows menu provides four options:
As free pattern: this permits you to retrieve all the words or phrases contained in the corpus depending on the characters entered.
As word: finds all words or phrases contained in the corpus which are the same as the entered sequences.
As word beginning/As word ending: finds all words or phrases beginning or ending with the same entered sequences.

2.2.7 View

View displays the texts resulted from the search.

2.2.8 Search context

Search context starting off with the results of a search (be it a word or phrase), a second word or phrase can be inserted to search for possible concurrences in the text, eventually establishing the distance parameters between one word and another.

2.2.9 Simultaneous conditions

If you tick more conditions simultaneously, the logic operator AND (all set up conditions) will be activated.

2.3 Word lists

Word lists displays the list of words contained in the corpus which is being consulted.
The first letter of the word can be selected from the bar of the alphabetical list.
The list of lexemes shows the word, the total of occurrences, the reference to the inscription where the specific word appears, the line and the context. In case of proper names, the onomastic category the name belongs to is specified.

The list of words is divided as follows:

» Onomastics
» Lexicon
» Lacunae at beginning.

2.4 List of iconographic elements

List of iconographic elements displays the iconographic elements listed in alphabetical order. Each entry groups the inscriptions containing that specific element.

2.5 Map

Map displays the geographic map corresponding to the ancient region each corpus refers to.

2.6 Bibliography

Bibliography displays the file containing the bibliographical references relative to the corpus which is being consulted.

2.7 News

News displays information about new inscriptions, photos, translations inserted in each corpus.

2.8 Download

Download font and utilities allows users to download technical and subsidiary tools necessary to consult and use the CSAI database correctly.
